NYC DOB SST Local Law 196

Local Law 196 of 2017 requires certain workers and supervisors to receive safety training at construction sites that are required to designate a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator or Site Safety Manager.

SST Certification

For Online Webinar: After registration, students will receive information on signing onto the webinar platform via ZOOM. Please note access to PC with webcam and audio will be necessary to attend the live webinar. Students will be required to show their state ID (example: Drivers license) at the start of the Webinar. During the Live webinar, students will be able to interact with the instructor. Training will be actively proctored at all times.

As a requirement of Local Law 196 of 2017, workers at job sites requiring a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator or Site Safety Manager must have a total of 40 hours of safety training.

Local Law 196 of 2017, requires Supervisors at job sites requiring a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator or Site Safety Manager to receive 62 hours of site safety training (SST). This only includes Site Safety Managers, Site Safety Coordinators, Concrete Safety Managers, Construction Superintendents and Competent Persons designated by Construction Superintendents.

**If a student has already completed training in certain SST topics, credit hours can be applied toward the SST course requirements. Refer to the NYC DOB Course Equivalent document for applicable credit hours toward the SST card requirements.

Training Required to Renew SST Card

Workers and supervisors whose Site Safety Training (SST) cards expire in 2023 must complete site safety training refresher courses before they can renew their cards. Refresher training must be taken no more than one year before applying for card renewal.

Note: It is not necessary for workers or supervisors to retake full OSHA training courses; the refresher training pathways fully meet the requirements for card renewals.
