Construction Site Fire Safety Manager (CSFSM) is responsible for ensuring that construction, alteration, and demolition work at a construction site is conducted in compliance with the requirements of the Fire Code.

New York City Fire Code Chapter 14 Section 1408, now requires that a Fire Safety Manager be present at construction projects that require a Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator. Any Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator designated as the Fire Safety Manager at a major building must comply with the training requirement – Construction Site Fire Safety Manager Training.
The S-56 Certificate of Fitness is required where a Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator is required by the Building Code for a construction site. The Construction Site Fire Safety Manager (CSFSM) shall conduct an inspection of the construction site and all fire safety measures on at least a daily basis, and maintain a record when construction, demolition and alteration work is being conducted.
This Certificate of Fitness is valid only at a specific location and for the specific person to whom it is issued.
